En 2018, un terrorista nacional y supremacista blanco abri\u00f3 fuego y mat\u00f3 a miembros inocentes de la Sinogoga del \u00c1rbol de la Vida en Pittsburgh, Pensilvania. Este lugar de oraci\u00f3n fue parcialmente atacado debido a sus programas de apoyo al reasentamiento de inmigrantes y refugiados. Este fue un acto de antisemitismo profundamente arraigado en el racismo y el nacionalismo blanco.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Los Weisenberg, mi familia por parte de mi padre, eran miembros de Tree of Life antes de mudarse a California en la d\u00e9cada de 1960. Tree of Life fue fundado por un grupo de inmigrantes jud\u00edos en el siglo XIX. Era un lugar de reuni\u00f3n y espiritualidad para personas que buscaban comunidad en un nuevo pa\u00eds. A finales del siglo XIX, una enorme ola de inmigrantes europeos y jud\u00edos lleg\u00f3 a Estados Unidos con la esperanza de un nuevo comienzo, libre de persecuci\u00f3n. Mis cuatro abuelos, jud\u00edos de Europa del Este y Austria-Hungr\u00eda, fueron parte de esta migraci\u00f3n. Como jud\u00edo en Estados Unidos, siempre he entendido las historias que me recuerdan que soy \"otro\". Desde el terrorismo interno hasta la intolerancia local, los jud\u00edos en todo Estados Unidos todav\u00eda enfrentan frecuentes actos de antisemitismo.\u00a0Incluso recientemente en Denver y Arvada, grupos antisemitas han estado cometiendo actos de odio.<\/a>. Alejarme de un lugar de culpa como jud\u00edo blanco y verme a m\u00ed mismo en la lucha por la liberaci\u00f3n compartida es un proceso que dura toda la vida y que requiere que examinemos las formas en que hemos causado da\u00f1o a otros y tambi\u00e9n hemos experimentado da\u00f1o a nosotros mismos.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Al comienzo de este curso, estaba leyendo En la Tierra somos brevemente hermosas<\/em>,<\/a>\u00a0una hermosa novela escrita por Ocean Vuong, a modo de carta a su madre. Despu\u00e9s de leer, me pregunt\u00e9 c\u00f3mo se sentir\u00eda escribir algo a mis antepasados, explorando la identidad y la inmigraci\u00f3n. Imagino que se burlaron de tu altura, de tu nariz, de tu dialecto. A\u00fan no del todo blanco, reci\u00e9n manchado por la di\u00e1spora. Entonces, para demostrar que eras digno de la aceptaci\u00f3n estadounidense, hiciste lo que ellos mejor sab\u00edan y fuiste a la guerra. No es demasiado tarde para resistir<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Mi abuelo falleci\u00f3 en 2005. Sus padres eran de Austria-Hungr\u00eda y \u00e9l era uno de ocho hermanos. Despu\u00e9s de establecerse en Ohio, luch\u00f3 en la Segunda Guerra Mundial y luego se uni\u00f3 a la fuerza laboral. Las fuerzas del capitalismo en combinaci\u00f3n con el racismo sist\u00e9mico lo empujaron y le permitieron sacar a nuestra familia de un lugar de lucha, pero no sin un precio.
