Mis continuos intentos de explicarme fueron recibidos con creciente sospecha, terminando en una sugerencia apenas velada de que estaba buscando drogas. En ese momento, me cerr\u00e9 por completo, nervioso de que cualquier otra cosa que dijera lo convenciera a\u00fan m\u00e1s de que solo quer\u00eda medicamentos, y temiendo que esto apareciera en mis registros y condujera a interacciones a\u00fan peores con los proveedores en el futuro.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Menos de una hora antes, hab\u00eda estado defendiendo a las comunidades BIPOC ante funcionarios gubernamentales y legisladores y ahora estaba completamente cerrado y despedido. Cuando le cont\u00e9 la experiencia a mi m\u00e9dico de atenci\u00f3n primaria, ella, probablemente con buenas intenciones, dijo que ten\u00eda que defenderme. Pero, \u00bfc\u00f3mo se ve la autodefensa en la atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica como mujer negra? Mis intentos de defenderme a menudo se consideran dif\u00edciles, enojados o como una b\u00fasqueda de drogas.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/12\/23\/us\/susan-moore-black-doctor-indiana.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Las mujeres negras que intentan hacerse cargo de su salud han sido objeto de burlas, ignoradas y reprensiones.<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La narrativa que a menudo se cuenta sobre las disparidades en la salud es que se deben a diferencias gen\u00e9ticas entre razas, pero&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/centerforhealthprogress.org\/es\/blog\/race-social-construct\/\">la raza es una construcci\u00f3n social.<\/a>. Las disparidades en la salud se deben al racismo, y esto afecta la forma en que las personas de color son tratadas e interact\u00faan con el sistema de atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica. Cuando los m\u00e9dicos ignoran nuestro dolor debido a la&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aamc.org\/news-insights\/how-we-fail-black-patients-pain\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Estereotipo evidentemente falso de que los negros tienen una mayor tolerancia al dolor.<\/a>, sufrimos innecesariamente y desarrollamos una desconfianza profundamente arraigada en el sistema de atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica que se transmite de generaci\u00f3n en generaci\u00f3n. S\u00e9 que no estoy solo en estas experiencias y tengo el privilegio de poder navegar por el sistema de atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica para eventualmente satisfacer mis necesidades, pero no todos pueden hacerlo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Necesitamos un cambio sist\u00e9mico dentro de los lugares donde se brinda atenci\u00f3n. En esta sesi\u00f3n estamos abogando activamente por proyectos de ley que lograr\u00e1n avances importantes para abordar las desigualdades;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/secure.everyaction.com\/qhROvjK8hkeLQGYPax7rfg2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">la opci\u00f3n colorado<\/a>&nbsp;y&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/secure.everyaction.com\/5eori2vAiUSJj-Grk_2Ilw2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Reforma de facturaci\u00f3n hospitalaria<\/a>&nbsp;aumentar\u00e1 la equidad y la asequibilidad en materia de salud. Colorado Option crear\u00e1 un nuevo plan de seguro m\u00e9dico de menor costo y mayor calidad, y brindar\u00e1 m\u00e1s cobertura para los servicios que las comunidades de color m\u00e1s necesitan. La reforma de facturaci\u00f3n hospitalaria estandarizar\u00e1 las pr\u00e1cticas de facturaci\u00f3n en todos los hospitales para reducir la deuda m\u00e9dica, que tambi\u00e9n es una gran necesidad para las comunidades de color. Estos proyectos de ley son incre\u00edblemente importantes y los animo a que se comuniquen con sus legisladores para pedirles su apoyo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sin embargo, en \u00faltima instancia, no pueden eliminar ni siquiera reducir el racismo impl\u00edcito que enfrentan las personas de color cuando buscamos atenci\u00f3n o simplemente existimos. Todos dentro del sistema de atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica tienen la responsabilidad de reconocer su papel en el mantenimiento del status quo en la atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica que contin\u00faa devaluando las vidas de los negros. En Center for Health Progress, nuestro modelo de cambio de sistema tiene sus ra\u00edces en el poder comunitario, donde aquellos de nosotros que somos m\u00e1s directamente afectados por estas injusticias nos unimos y lideramos en solidaridad con aliados para alterar el status quo y reclamar nuestra humanidad y dignidad.
