Joseph Hawkins is passionate about creating better health care opportunities for the people of Colorado. He understands that health language can get lost in translation and works to simplify those messages so people can get the care they need. At Center for Health Progress, Joseph aids community organizers with the work they do in the communities they support. He also works on Center for Health Progress’ graphic novel, Waiting for Health Equity, to maximize its exposure to new audiences and start discussions about systemic oppression and institutional racism. Joseph is a 2017 graduate of Towson University in Maryland, where he majored in electronic media and film. He joins Center for Health Progress as an Americorps VISTA, a national service program designed to alleviate poverty.
