Driven by a passion for equity and justice, Andrea is determined to build community power in her home of Fort Morgan. As a daughter of immigrants from Mexico, Andrea has first-hand experience with inequities in our healthcare system, and the harm it causes to low income and undocumented families. She believes that if we all come together to build collective power we will be able to change and create better systems that will work for all of us. From a young age, Andrea had to worry about things like translating/interpreting for her parents whenever they had to visit a clinic or hospital. Although she is thankful that she was able to provide this support, she is outraged at the fact that this is still going on.  Having a background in working with underrepresented communities she brings a unique and personal perspective to the fight for a better healthcare system.

Andrea was born and raised in Fort Morgan after her parents immigrated there in 1990. Her parents established themselves in the small community, where they felt their four children could thrive and succeed. Her father worked many years at the local meat packing plant and her mother stayed at home to help raise Andrea and her siblings. Andrea’s family has taught her the values of equity, loyalty, and honesty that she now wants to implement with her own child. When Andrea isn’t out in the community kicking ass, you can find her teaching classes at her local gym, reading a good book with a coffee in hand, or hanging out with her beautiful, charismatic son.
