Of Coloradans who do not have a place they usually go when they are sick or need health advice, a “usual source of care,” which includes those who use the ER for usual care, 20% are in fair or poor health. In comparison, 15% of those who have a usual source of care are in fair or poor health.
The connection between health and having access to health care is complex because a person’s education, income, race, insurance coverage, and the availability of health care resources all impact access to health care.
Access to health care has an impact on health, whether the impact is immediate, through the delivery of needed health care services, or longer term, because of access to important preventive services such as immunizations, screenings, or health advice.
