Data from the Colorado Health Access Survey shows that over 70% of Coloradans who earn a college degree or higher report they have very good or excellent health. In contrast, 38% of Coloradans with a high school diploma or less report they have very good or excellent health.
The connection between education and health is also demonstrated by other data sources. Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment data shows that Coloradans that live in communities where residents have higher levels of educational attainment are more likely to report excellent or very good health.
In Boulder and Broomfield counties, 86% of residents have some college education and 96% of the residents in these communities report having good or excellent health. In contrast, of the residents in Logan, Morgan, Phillips, Sedgwick, Washington, and Yuma counties, 50% have some college education and 81% report good or excellent health.
The data is clear: higher educational attainment means an increased likelihood of living a healthier life.
