Senior Communications Organizer
Marissa’s organizing is driven by her deep love and commitment to multi-racial, cross-class social movement building and her desire for all of us to be valued for our inherent worth and humanity. As a middle-class white person, grassroots community organizing has awakened her to the collective healing that can happen when we build strong relationships across difference and fight for systems change together.
She is the co-founder of the Boulder chapter of Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ), was a lecturer at the University of Colorado at Boulder for 14 years, where she received her Masters of Fine Arts, and has over a decade of experience in nonprofit communications and fundraising. Marissa is also a co-founder and former board member of Kick2Build Community, an inclusive soccer group that centers Black leadership and West African cultures. Marissa is thrilled to lead the Communications Organizing Team at Center for Health Progress, where grassroots member-leaders are building narrative power to win transformational change in health care.
