Lead Community Organizer
Perla’s passion for organizing began in middle school when she co-organized a walk out in solidarity with Latinx communities against ICE raids and separation of families. She continued her organizing work through high school, canvassing and educating community members on the voting process. As the daughter and granddaughter of immigrants from Chihuahua, Mexico, she has lived the challenges of immigrants in an unfamiliar and unwelcoming world and has been translating and interpreting for family members since childhood. These experiences have made her a strong advocate for immigrant communities and is committed to ensuring their voices are heard and that they have the power to make change in their communities. She’s previously volunteered with Morgan County Gold Stars, a nonprofit organization that helps provide canned food items and gifts to families in need during the holidays. Perla is the oldest of seven children and enjoys time with family, singing, dancing, and making people laugh. Perla’s life anthem is “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey.
